Saturday's keynote speaker is nurse, Linda M. Schultz, PhD.
Facilitating Movement in the Rehabilitation of Individuals with Spinal Cord Injury
Movement plays an integral part in the health and wellbeing of individuals with spinal cord injury and other paralysis. There is a rich history of providing passive and active movement to individuals who have challenges in function. An example of a ground breaking study using activity to create movement in an individual with tetraplegia from traumatic spinal cord injury is presented as a stepping stone to application of therapies to create movement in others. This can be a challenge for individuals living with SCI in the community. Understanding educational needs of individuals and healthcare professionals is a first step. Creating opportunities utilizing evidence as a means to improve movement is a key to recovery.
